Video Final Reflection
This Semester In Video
This semester we learned about Convergence Journalism. Within convergence journalism we learned how to compose a news story, feature story, and how to write a news story. We were taught how to create a thorough interview with twenty one interview questions. We learned a lot about how the camera itself works and hoe to recored, put in batteries, adjust white balance, and much more regarding the cameras. We learned how to set up the tripod by extending the legs and hoe to slide the plate on and off (which my group struggled with for a really long time). We also had to apply the six shot system and the rule of thirds to make our videos more visually appealing and interesting.During all of our projects we had to use our five skills. I used leadership in order make sure everyone got everything done, we all used our technical skills to work the camera and edit the videos me and my team created. We used time management to get everything done, and we use communication and collaboration throughout the whole thing in order to create the best possible video we can. After we filmed we all used the same skills when it came to editing so we could have a great outcome. Editing videos really helped advance our knowledge of how to use premier pro. For example I learned about the razor blade tool which separates one video into two and it was very helpful when it came to editing.
My Videos
This is one of my first videos in convergence. This was our first feature story with one interview. This project took about a week to create questions and to film and edit it overall. The interview itself was not very interesting so it was hard to make it interesting and that was a challenge of mine. I learned how to put a microphone in a camera and get it to work. But in regards to the microphone I learned that when you are interviewing someone you shouldn't ask someone a question into the mic and hand it back and fourth it look really visually poor when you do that. When I went back for re edits I put in more B-Roll and I resized my videos and photos that I added. I think this video turned out okay It could have been more interesting but you know we did our best.
We also created this news story for ONW now. We covered the band concert that happened a few weeks ago. This project took about a week because of all the filming and editing that we had to do. It was really challenging to make this because we had to wait for the concert to happen in order to film everything so we were on a very tight schedule. I learned that time management and communication are key to getting everything done as soon as possible. Our voiceovers were really quiet so that was one bad feedback comment that me and my group got. If I could change it I would have to change the voiceovers. I think this video turned out okay.
One of the last things we did was an Op-Ed which is an opinion based news story kind of. This project was very short and very easy to do because all we had to do was write a script and read off of it. So I did not face any challenges because it was just that easy. I was told by some of my peers that my lighting is a little off so I should work on my white balance a little bit before I start filming. I think this video turned out really great.
Managing My time
I used my class time as wisely as possible an do would work hard and when I finished my projects I used that time to do other e-com related projects. I used to work on my animation projects. Sometimes I would also go back and make sure my videos were as good as they possibly could be. I even came in after school once or twice to edit my videos and make them to be the very best that they can be.
Strengths ans Weaknesses
One of my strengths is I like to get things done so that I don't have to turn in anything late. So I constantly pushed myself and my team to get things done. But also it is really easy to get me off task and distracted so that was one of my weaknesses. During some projects we got really off task but I reminded myself and my team that we had something that we had to do. I also ups leadership throughout to make sure that everyone did everything they were supposed to do. but when it came to making our ONW Now sophomore edition I couldn't be a leader. I did not have anything assigned for m to do so all I could do was watch. But One of me and my teams story was in the show.
Overall
Overall I had A lot of fun this semester . I do not think that Convergence Journalism is meant for me because I don't think I am very good at it. It also was not very interesting and it didn't speak to me really. I really liked working with all of my friends to create videos. I just do not thing they were very fin or interesting. One goal I want to set is to use more of the six shot system to enhance the visual aspect of my videos.
